Ultrasonic generators and transducers
Each ultrasonic unit is made up for a PZT generator and one or more transducer elements. The ultrasonic generators are solid-state frequency converters which enable the mains frequency (50 or 60 Hz) to be stepped up to levels normally between 20 and 40 KHz. Quick acting SCR's or transistors with maximum frequency rating of 50 KHz are used for frequency conversion and output power regulation. All the ultrasonic generators can be provided with an output power regulating system (optional). A control circuit automatically stabilizes the preset power level and protects the equipment from mains overvoltage and any external short circuits.

Output frequency is optimised thanks to a micro-computer which allows maximum performance under variable transducer parameters: self-induced resonance, tank dimensions, liquid level and composition of the liquid. Furthermore, a frequency sweep facility prevents local power build up (stationary waves), thus ensuring uniform distribution of power in the liquid volume. The ultrasonic transducers transform the high frequency voltage waves of the generator into mechanical vibration of the same frequency and power. Supply voltage 220 V 50 - 60 Hz.

The transducers, of electrostrictive type (piezoelectric), consist of two lead titanate zirconate discs compressed between two metal cylindrical blocks having amplifier functions. The piezoelectric materials are of suitably cut and oriented crystals which vary in dimension when submitted to variable electrical fields. Conversion efficiency is extremely high (90%)
